Octane, real name Octavio Silva, is the first ever legend to be introduced after Apex Legends’ release. He’s speedy, agile, and maneuverable. As the heir-of-a-pharmaceutical-mogul-turned-daredevil, he attempted to break the record on a gauntlet run, with disastrous results. 24 hours after his legs got blown off, he wakes with new prosthetic ones. After that, he promptly resumes his thrill-seeking ways and turns to the Apex Games for his adrenaline fix.
So here’s all you need to know about him to level up your Apex Legends account.
His Skills
They revolve around his evasiveness and wide range of movements. His passive, Swift Mend, allows for speedy health regeneration, as long as he’s not taking damage. Combine that with his tactical skill, Stim, which eats up 10% of his health in exchange for a 30% boost in speed. It only lasts 6 seconds, but that should be enough to get you out of otherwise sticky situations.
Lastly, for his Ultimate, he deploys a Launch Pad. While that doesn’t seem as impressive as say, deploying decoys or a poison grenade, you can add verticality to otherwise horizontal fights. It also allows for more movement options such as scaling walls or barriers. There’s also the option to use it for regrouping or repositioning your squad. Some players have even found a creative use for it by bouncing enemies out of their cover!
Some Tips
True to his adrenaline junkie nature, his skills have far lower cooldowns than other hero skills. That means you can spam Stim as long as you have the health for it. Swift Mend is a bit slow, but it would only take five seconds to regenerate the 10% taken by the tactical skill. The passive isn’t meant to be relied upon to get you back into fighting shape after a skirmish. It’s for offsetting the health requirement of Stim.
That being said, don’t be afraid of spamming that skill to the max. Running at 130% speed is more beneficial than always being at maximum health. You’d be trying to recharge shields and repairing armor a few minutes into the game anyway. Also, practice hitting things on target while moving. You don’t play Octane to just stand around. It’s a critical mistake to run toward a firefight as him only to stand as still as a statue as you to try to shoot opponents.
As for your LaunchPad, keep in mind that it persists after you set one up. If you used it to escape, you can be sure that your opponent will follow you. That aside, did you know that if you jump before touching the pad you’ll bounce about 30% higher than usual? Now you know!
The pad also has some other curious effects when mixed with Wraith‘s portals and even grenades. Oddly, players end up a short distance from the portal if the skill was deployed under one. For the latter, if you angle your throw right, your grenade will fly further than usual. Lastly, take note that the LaunchPad has a slim hitbox. Be careful where you throw them!
Go and Practice
Octane’s strength is his mobility, so make use of it to flank opponents. At any rate, you’re not going to be some instant expert unless you’re some kind of gaming genius. Don’t be discouraged if you lose a bunch. You just need more practice, that’s all.
So has your interest in Octane been piqued yet? There are many options to choose from to get an account. If you do go take the ‘buy one’ option, please consider using an Apex account calculator. It’ll make the selection process a breeze, and you can get the most value for your money.
Go forth and enjoy the adrenaline rush in Apex Legends!
